Weigh In - What’s Your Dream Vacation

We all have places we dream of visiting one day. For some, these dream vacations are tied to our cultural heritage, and for others they're the exotic locations that are only read about or seen in movies. How someone would spend his or her dream vacation can vary widely from one person to the next, with some opting for high-energy adventures and others dreaming of long, lazy days lounging in the hot sand or on the deck of a cruise ship.

Vacations offer a well-deserved respite from the often repetitive, grueling motions of our day-to-day lives. They are also where lifelong memories with family and friends are made. With warm weather beckoning and school closed for the season, summer is a perfect time of year for vacations.

We asked people in Monmouth County where they would go for their dream summer vacations if they did not have to worry about finding the time or money to make them happen. Their responses ranged from multi-national tours to getaways just down the Garden State Parkway. As you write out your bucket list and think about your goals for the future, ask yourself this: if money and time were no object, where in the world would you go this summer?

I would like to take my family to Tahiti to let them relax and also experience a different type of culture.

Maui. I was there once, but it wasn’t long enough. It’s a perfect place to ride a motorcycle, take in the scenery, and just get away.

Actually, the Jersey Shore. Really. There’s no better place than the shore in the summer because you can meet visitors from all over the world and go to so many seasonal destinations and businesses.

ape Town, South Africa. I was born and raised in Angola but never got down there to visit. I heard it’s a wonderful place.

I’d want to go to St. Martin. It’s a peaceful and relaxing place, what a getaway should be.

Bald Head Island in North Carolina. It’s like a hidden gem, practically a subtropical island here in the U.S.

Scott C.
Manasquan

I’d want to go to Hawaii. I’ve never been, but I hear it’s got really clean water. That’d be good for surfing and swimming.

I’d like to visit the United Kingdom. There’s a lot of history and culture in Scotland and England. I bet it’s not too hot to enjoy in the summer, either.

Puerto Rico. It’s an affordable getaway and a gorgeous place. I stayed once for about a week and it was so relaxing. I would definitely go back again.

Paris. Everywhere you go there, the food is good and the people are friendly. That’s all you can ask for in a vacation.

Somewhere in the Caribbean. I know it’d be hot, but I hear a lot of people always talking about going on vacation there.

Scotland. My family was originally from there. I think it’d be nice to go there and learn about my own history, and some of their culture.

Somewhere in South America. It’s cooler down there during our summers. I’d want to explore the rainforests and the mountains.
