Weigh In - The Jersey Shore boardwalk
06/27/2010 - By Teja Anderson
What is your favorite game, ride, or thing to eat at the Jersey Shore boardwalk?
The long hot days of summer are stretched out before us and locals and tourist alike are heading to the Jersey Shore. While many of you head for the beaches or your boats, families, couples and singles usually take at least a few days of vacation time to visit one of our famous boardwalks from Keyport on down to Cape May. Living In Media found that almost all of you had favorite things to eat, drink and do when you arrived at one of these popular boardwalks: Point Pleasant, Ocean City, Seaside, Pier Village, Asbury Park and Atlantic City.
The Jersey Shore boardwalk. Just thinking about it brings a smile to young and old. Nostrils flared as you were asked to recall your favorite foods! Funnel cake absolutely topping the list, then boardwalk French fries (with vinegar), ice cream & waffles, pizza, hotdogs and saltwater taffy. Freshly squeezed lemonade was the only beverage of choice mentioned repeatedly to help wash down all that yummy comfort food.
If you were game players you liked the “Froggy Game,” Skiball/Skillball/Skeetball or the “Clown/Balloon/Water Gun/Squirting Game” - although not one of you were correct on the proper names for them! We had to look them up, and they are actually; “Frog Bog,” “Skee Ball” and “Clown Water-pistols,” in case you were wondering.
For rides; anything that spun or thrilled was popular whether it was the Himalaya at Point Pleasant or the Moby Dick ride in Keyport or a rollercoaster anywhere. Most adults claimed they only went on rides when they were younger, and now only because of their kids, but somehow we found the Bumper Cars were always packed with grownups. (No doubt getting rid of some of that pent-up road rage at all the extra traffic!)
So this summer if you want to experience the boardwalk like a true New Jerseyan, grab a hot funnel cake and a cold lemonade then play a few rounds of Frog Bog before you jump on the rollercoaster… just don’t forget the sunscreen and the Pepto-Bismol.
