Weigh In - What is on your wish list for this holiday season?

The answers to this issue’s question were surprising at first...
...because almost every adult we spoke with made their wish for people other than themselves…most notably for our country. It seems that so many people have been affected by the current economic crisis that most wishes were selfless. It really didn’t matter which town we went to – Colts Neck, Holmdel, Marlboro, and the Jersey Shore. Adults were not thinking in terms of material things; when they did, it was usually the need to replace a broken household tool. Not one person wished for diamonds or furs or other luxury items. But when we spoke to the teen set and younger, they all had one thing on their minds – electronics! Most kids wished for cell phones, and the Apple® brand was mentioned most. When you think about it, isn’t the holiday season really meant for the kids?! Even so, none of the young people we spoke with were the least bit greedy. Most wanted only one item and, even when pressed, not one of them rattled off a list of pricey gifts. Family was, of course, important too. The desire to be with loved ones during the holidays, whether folks were planning on celebrating Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza, or any other gift-giving holiday this time of year. Obviously, these are difficult times right now, but let’s all keep in mind the spirit of the season while doing our best to help stimulate the economy… even if our wish lists are a little shorter this year.
