HumanizeMD Spotlight - Ankur Shah, M.D., DABR
Atlantic Medical Imaging
As a child growing up in Middlesex County, NJ, I enjoyed school. I wanted a job that was always going to be intellectually stimulating and fulfilling and would contribute to my community and society. In the end, a career in the medical profession was a great fit for me – but first I put my undergraduate computer science degree to use in the field of financial fraud investigation.
The process of transitioning from my old career to the rigors of medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia would prove to be one of my greatest professional achievements. It’s no surprise that my passion for acquiring new knowledge brought me back to Philly for my neuroradiology fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
Specializing in brain imaging was a natural fit for me. It enables me to merge my technology background with patient interaction. I enjoy serving the community by being part of a radiology group that provides a high level of service, as well as innovative and compassionate care to its patients.
While changing career paths and finishing medical school were significant career accomplishments, I’m personally proud to have a beautiful, supportive wife, and an amazing 2-year-old son.
My wife and I met through mutual friends. We live in Monmouth County, and I love the area’s outdoor spaces. There’s always something to do here, like putting on a pair of sneakers and running at the Manasquan Reservoir. I don’t run to train for a marathon – I run purely for enjoyment, exercise and to stay healthy. Being outside in one of the parks helping my son on the playground slide, or lying with my family under a cabana at the beach are some of my favorite pastimes.
