Tis the season...of gifts, sweets and parties; champagne toasts and family dinners complete with multiple dessert options. No wonder so many of us gain weight between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. This is especially true and particularly troubling for people who are already significantly overweight, trying to maintain a recent weight loss, or experiencing weight related health problems.

Medimorphosis, a physician assisted weight loss center located in Shrewsbury, NJ, is here to help - before, during and after the holidays.

Founded by non-surgical weight management specialist, Dr. Claudia Huegel, a board-certified family physician and bariatrician, Medimorphosis offers a compassionate, holistic approach to shedding pounds and dropping old, unproductive habits. “Change Your Mind; Change Your Body; Change Your Life” is the premise behind the center’s comprehensive, customized programs.

“Obesity is a complex disease,” says Dr. Huegel, the center’s Medical Director, “It doesn’t just go away when you lose weight, even a lot of weight.” What’s needed are “safe, scientifically sound” weight loss measures, plus “a variety of tools to manage weight and health over the long term.”

That is precisely what Dr. Huegel and her associates, mind-body specialist Dr. Carol Penn, D.O., MFA and certified behavioral counselor Lisa Kaplan provide. Patients are introduced to Medimorphosis during an initial consultation, and if they choose to enroll, receive a full medical evaluation during their first program visit.

Weight loss is addressed medically with research-based food plans, physical activity counseling, body composition analysis, medical monitoring, and when indicated, medications. NutriMed meal replacement supplements are also available.

Weight management strategies, tailored to each patient’s unique needs and circumstances, incorporate Cognitive Behavioral techniques that “change how you think to change what you do,” says Dr. Huegel. This helps patients replace old, self-sabotaging patterns with healthier attitudes and actions. Patients also learn coping skills, stress management and relaxation through yoga, tai chi, journaling and guided imagery.

It’s all part of the journey - one that can lead to real, lasting change in your weight, your health and your life.
